Maachis: Reviving India's Most Democratic Gallery

+

About the brand

Handcrafted wooden ones that sell for ₹700 each. In a world where matches come free with your chai, this sounds absurd. Except they're not selling matches. They're reviving the 35mm canvas that carried India's visual culture into millions of hands-truck drivers' pockets, grandmothers' altars, tea stall counters. The most democratic gallery India ever had.

Democratic Spirit, Continued

Staying true to matchbox art's democratic roots, Maachis collaborates with artists across India on a royalty basis. Artist Deeya Thakur designed 'Bismillah' and 'Big Dawgs'. The credit stays with creators. Production mirrors the ethos. Handcrafted wooden boxes printed directly on wood. We wanted something permanent. Something you'd want to keep. Pass on. It had to feel like an artifact.
